There are few things that provide that festive Christmas feeling more than a hot cup of spiced apple cider. Left to brew on the stovetop, this sweet and spicy beverage boasts enough fragrance to fill your entire home with the scent of holiday cheer, and it’s caffeine free, so the entire family can enjoy!

Though we love tea above all else, we don’t discriminate against other members of the hot beverage family, and mulled apple cider is definitely a favourite when december rolls around. This year we realized the recent launch of our festive new Celebration Medley tea could provide an exciting new flavour opportunity: tea infused cider!

Celebration Medley is a red rooibos tea, so it can steep endlessly just like mulling spice, and with rose petals, orange, apple, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, it’s the perfect compliment to the traditional cider we all know and love. Adding subtle hints of warm, festive flavour, this combination is sure to become a favourite around the Christmas tree this year, and for years to come!

Sloane Fine Tea Merchant’s Celebration Medley

1L jug of sweet apple cider

4 Tablespoons mulling spice (store bought or homemade)

2 cinnamon sticks to garnish (or more for more servings)

1. Pour 1L of cider into a large pot on the stove and add the mulling spice and tea directly to the cider. Turn on the stovetop to low heat and let the mixture gradually warm, stirring occasionally.

2. When the cider is hot and the spices have had a good chance to steep (about 15-20 minutes), pour the liquid through a fine strainer to remove tea leaves and spices (optional). Add a cinnamon stick and serve piping hot as is, or with a hint of whisky.
