Throughout our journey at Sloane Tea, we’ve had the honour of crossing paths and developing flourishing friendships with truly talented artists and dreamers. Recently, we came together and created an incredibly memorable Afternoon Tea experience to celebrate a milestone birthday for one very special lady. As we are firm believers in “life is in the details”, we sought out to ensure that the tone of the event could be heard by guests through beautifully designed invitations by Chelsi Lee Designs. We’re fans of her bohemian chic aesthetic which was perfect for an intimate afternoon of sweet sophistication.

Though not traditionally a part of an Afternoon Tea setting, a birthday cake was definitely in order as this was a 30th birthday celebration. Given the summer season and knowing the birthday girl was a fan of strawberry shortcake, we knew what we had to do. To bring our vision to life, we worked with the incredibly talented Nadia of Nadia & Co. Art & Pastry whose personality is as sweet as the edible art she creates. Nadia is a culinary visionary with extraordinary artistic talent. The look on the faces of the guests when they saw the cake she had created was unforgettable. What’s more, is that the birthday girl’s dress matched the cake itself! In case you’re wondering, this was not planned, but merely a result of Nadia listening when in passing it was mentioned that the birthday girl was a fan of Dolce & Gabbana.

Of course, this was just the beginning. An Afternoon Tea is not complete without the presence of savouries, sweets, and of course, scones! Our favourite savouries to date are those of The Ritz-Carlton, and for good reason. They are showpiece sandwiches that are as delicious as they are stunning. Guests were greeted with a fine assortment of sandwiches featuring Heirloom Tomato & Cheese, Salmon Croissant, Curried Chicken Salad Bun, Cucumber & Dill, and Egg Salad. The carefully tiered presentation was perfection and provided a beautiful platform for selection.

Also gracing the table was a freshly baked batch of buttermilk scones by Kitten and the Bear, accompanied by personalized jars of their artisan preserves: Banana Vanilla Bean and Strawberry, Orange & Spices. Both their scones and jam are legendary, and for good reason. In all our travels, we have not experienced scones so moist and jam so exceptional.

Sprinkled throughout the room were stunning floral creations by Patchouli Design. Knowing the “tea time” theme, they brought to life gorgeous arrangements that mirrored the elegance and colourful spirit of the afternoon beautifully.  They included our porcelain teapot painted in 24 carat gold as well as our signature Heavenly Cream tea caddy into the arrangements.

To finish on a sweet and romantic note, Nadia included roses and a touch of gold into the Heavenly Cream tea-infused Macaron Tower and the Coupe de Chocolat.  Crystallized rose petals adorned the Vanilla Bean & Salted Caramel Mini Eclairs, and whole violets flowers and roses were showcased in the Strawberry Rose & Violette Sucettes which guests took home as favours. Needless to say, the edible works of art she created were nothing short of exceptional.

Renowned 19th century author Henry James once said “There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony know as afternoon tea.” For us, these words could not ring more true. The memories that were shared amongst friends during this intimate celebration will forever be cherished. A sincere thank you to the radiant Gillian of Sounds Like Yellow Photography for capturing the day’s magic so beautifully!
